Using liquid culture is highly popular for culinary for several reasons:

  • Speed & convenience: Because the mycelium is already "alive" and hydrated in sterilized liquid, it begins growing mycelium from 7-9 days. This is a great way to inoculate grains for any at home mushroom grower. Liquid culture is also a great way transfer mycelium agar plates as well.

  • Inoculation Points: When you inject 2-4cc of liquid culture into a grain bag, those thousands of tiny fragments spread everywhere. This creates multiple "growth centers," leading to a much faster colonization of the bag.

  • Longevity: A single syringe of liquid culture can be stored in the air tight sealed bags we provide for up to 3 months in the refrigerator. One isolated liquid culture syringe can be used to create liters of more liquid culture, meaning a small investment can theoretically provide an endless supply of mycelium for your mushroom farm. 

  • Ease of Use: It is much easier and cleaner to inject a liquid into a bag through a small hole called the injection port on your grain or substrate for colonization than it is to transfer solid pieces of agar in the open air without a laminar flow hood.
